Some time ago I have a nice discussion with a non-scientist friend that is very interested in science and technology. He loved reading about new discoveries in science and he followed many science channels and websites. Sometimes, after reading about an astonishing new discovery he tried to read the research article where the results were presented... But he complained that it was impossible to understand anything written there.
“These research articles are like a hieroglyph, somebody should translate them into a normal language!!”
It was a very funny way to state something that is actually true; in most cases only people that is deeply specialized in that particular topic can understand research articles (being optimistic ;-).
In honour to his funny words, I decided to call this section the “popular science translator”. My idea is to write “translations” of some of our articles and explain what we did in easy and plain words, maybe sacrificing precision and rigour for the sake of clarity and understandability. I hope you enjoy it!
